![]() DJ is worn and has several short edge tears along with a 1 1/2" edge tear on the bottom edge of the front panel. owner's bookplate is on the center, bottom edge of the front endpaper. owner was a librarian and had a children's book presentation - unfortunately glued her typed notes to the top edge of the front endpaper. ![]() ![]() String binding is very slightly loose, but only at the front hinge - back hinge is snug. Verso of the front endpaper states "First Edition" with Leonard Weisgard's signature below. DJ is VERY GOOD clipped, a bit foxed, edges have mild wear and some minor chips - a far better than usual DJ. Text has some pencil underlining and marks to denote favorite lines in the story, otherwise the illustrations are completely unmarked and bright/fresh. Gift message dated 1947 on ffep and a poem by Rachel Field, another Maine author, is written in blue ink on the blank side of the ffep. ![]() Condition is VERY GOOD covers very clean, spine strip is rather poorly done originally, with the lower piece wider and a bit crooked. This is a very early printing, probably the second printing, with a gift message dated 1947 and the price of $2.00 on the rear DJ flap advert for "Little Lost Lamb." No mention of first edition on the copyright info, and the price has been clipped from the DJ. Black cloth spine with pictoral paper boards. ![]()
